Counting the stitches

Stitch count is the number of stitches in a prepared embroidery file. It varies with the artwork, design size, stitch types and density. Two designs of the same size can have very different counts.

More is not always better

A dense filled shape may use many stitches; a clean outline may use fewer. Extra density can make fabric stiff or cause puckering. A successful design balances clear detail with the material and the available embroidery area.

The count follows the design

For custom artwork, the final count depends on the adapted design and its production file. We do not promise a fixed stitch count before that file exists, and we do not use an unverified number as a quality claim.

What to look for instead

Look at whether the design reads clearly, whether lettering is legible and whether the cap suits the artwork. With Nidol custom caps, you approve an embroidery preview after purchase and before stitching. A photo is simplified for thread rather than reproduced as a photographic print.
